Using Your Free Space

Advanced Computer Connections, Inc. Acceptable Use Policy (AUP)

NOTE: Your free web space will be setup for you only after you have requested it. Please email webboss@accnorwalk.com or call us and we will be glad to set the space up for you.

If you've made it this far, then you have completed your web page and are ready to post it, right? Here you will find step by step instructions on how to use your space.

First of all, your URL will be (http://homepages.accnorwalk.com/your_screen_name). For instance, If your screen name is yankeedoodledandy. Your URL would be http://homepages.accnorwalk.com/yankeedoodledandy

You've got your page finished and are ready to show the world. Here is what you do.

• Get on to the Internet

• Open WS_FTP (This is an FTP program we distribute with our software when you joined the Internet)M

You should have something that looks like this:

Session Properties

IMPORTANT: Make sure that you fill in the following information as seen on the picture above. Profile Name: accnorwalk, Host Name: homepages.accnorwalk.com, Host Type: Automatic detect, User ID: your_screen_name, Password: your password.

Your screen name and passwords will be the same as when you login to the internet.

Click on O.K. after you have made the settings. You should now see a screen that looks like this:

NOTE: The Local System is your computer. The top box is the directory you are currently in. The box just below that is where you can navigate from one directory to another (You can go up one directory by double clicking on the two dots (..)). The bottom box contains all the files for the directory you are currently in.

The boxes on the top are directories on your system. The boxes on the bottom are directories and files on accnorwalk's server (where you are going to put your pages). Different FTP Programs may look different.

When you connected using your screen name and password, you were put into your space automatically. You need to transfer your pages and all associated files/folders into the main folder on the webserver.

You should now search for your web pages on the top side. Once you have found them, highlight the pages and /or files you want to put in your web space by clicking once on the file, hold the ctrl key and click to highlight multiple files. Once you have all the files/folders highlighted that you want to transfer click on the transfer button. (IMPORTANT: Before doing this, make sure that the binary box is checked at the bottom of your screen) You have just placed your files in your root directory on accnorwalk's server.

Some important notes:

• Name your first page index.html or index.htm (If you don't, nobody will see your page).

• If you are using Windows 95 or NT, you must use the 32-bit version of WS_FTP. Otherwise all your page names will have a ~ symbol and none of your local links will work.

We all hope this has been helpful to you and we look forward to seeing your page!
